Child Among 2 Killed, Several Injured After Bricks-Laden Lorry Suffers Brake Failure at Kemera in Nyamira 

A tragic road accident has claimed the lives of two people, including a child, after a tipper lorry transporting bricks reportedly suffered brake failure before crashing into roadside stalls at Kemera Trading Centre in Nyamira County.

According to preliminary reports, the lorry was traveling from Magombo towards Kisii Town when the driver allegedly lost control after the vehicle’s braking system failed.

The out-of-control truck then veered off the road and rammed into several roadside stalls where traders and pedestrians were conducting their daily activities.

The impact of the crash left two people dead on the spot, among them a child, while several others sustained serious injuries.

The accident caused panic among residents and business owners as emergency responders and members of the public rushed to rescue those trapped and assist the injured.

The victims were taken to Nyamira Teaching and Referral Hospital, where they are receiving treatment. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased or the injured as families are being informed.

Police officers visited the scene and have launched investigations to establish the exact cause of the accident, with initial reports pointing to suspected brake failure.

Traffic officers are also expected to inspect the vehicle as part of the ongoing investigation.

Following the incident, local residents urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are in proper mechanical condition before using the roads.

They also called on pedestrians and roadside traders to remain vigilant, especially along busy highways where heavy commercial vehicles frequently pass.
