Stephen Mogaka Launches Construction of Bondeni–Magombo Tarmac Road in West

The long awaited tarmac road from Bondeni to Magombo has been under construction led by the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Stephen Mugaka.

The project is expected to transform the route and improve the transportation of people and agricultural goods while providing economic opportunities to the local community and traders.

The Bondeni–Magombo road has long been a concern to the residents and has been plagued by the poor condition of the road, which has impacted on transport, especially during the rainy season. In November 2025, the public road was publicly appealed by Mogaka to President William Ruto to place it at the top of the priority list as vital to farmers, traders, students and businesses.

A Long-Awaited Project

The launch follows the recent government interest in the road infrastructure in West Mugirango. In April 2026, Mogaka revealed that the road from Magombo, through Bondeni, to Kebirigo and then to Motagara had moved to the procurement stage, after the tender was advertised. He also said President Ruto was expected to make an official kick-off of the project.

Construction has now begun and residents are excited to see the road improved from its current condition to an all-weather tarmac road.

Boost for Agriculture and Trade

The road is expected to have a significant impact on the local economy, including agriculture, which is a major source of livelihood for many families in the area.

Enhanced connectivity will help farmers move their produce to markets and traders and businesses will benefit from the reduction in transportation costs and travel time.

The residents will also also benefit from better access to schools, health facilities and all the other essential services around and along the road corridor.

Mogaka’s Development Agenda

The road launch comes on the heels of other development initiatives which Mogaka has been showcasing in West Mugirango.

The MP also pointed to plans of markets in Nyamira town as well as Nyamaiya and Miruka in Gusii region during the President’s visit in April, a water pipeline which will benefit thousands of households in the region, and other education facilities within the constituency.

Construction of the Bondeni–Magombo road marks a major step towards providing better infrastructure and economic development for the residents who have long awaited this development.

Now the attention turns to the project and the quality and timely completion of the road as people wait to see it change into a modern tarmac road.
