Fresh details have emerged surrounding the brutal attack on gospel musician Racheal Wandeto, a mother of two who was allegedly assaulted while walking home in the Kasarani area of Nairobi. The singer, who hails from Kirinyaga County, had been living in Kasarani before the horrifying incident that left her with severe burn injuries.
According to accounts Racheal reportedly gave before her condition deteriorated, she noticed two unidentified men following her as she made her way home at night. Initially, she is said to have dismissed any suspicion, believing the men were simply passersby. However, the situation quickly turned frightening when the suspects allegedly confronted her and demanded money.
Racheal reportedly recalled the attackers telling her, “Ebu tutumie pesa ulipewa,” implying they believed she had recently received money and wanted her to send it to them. She allegedly explained that she did not have any money and could not help them financially.
Moments later, the encounter reportedly turned violent. The assailants are said to have poured a corrosive substance believed to be acid on various parts of her body, including her head and legs, causing excruciating pain and severe burns. In a chilling escalation, the attackers allegedly set her on fire before fleeing the scene, leaving her helpless by the roadside.
Despite the seriousness of her injuries, Racheal reportedly managed to scream for help, attracting the attention of a good Samaritan who rushed to assist her. She was first taken to a nearby hospital in the Uzima area for emergency treatment before being transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital for specialized care due to the extent of her injuries.
Racheal Wandeto had previously attracted public attention online because of her outspoken support for Kenyan President William Ruto. Reports indicated that she had even tattooed the President’s name on her body as a sign of loyalty and admiration.
The shocking attack has triggered widespread reactions on social media, with many Kenyans calling for swift investigations and justice for the gospel singer. Others have raised concerns over rising insecurity and the increasing cases of violent attacks targeting women across the country.
