A dramatic scene was witnessed in Moiben, Uasin Gishu County, after Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Shollei was confronted by angry residents during a public event on May 21, 2026.

The legislator had attended a milk cooler distribution exercise aimed at supporting dairy farmers in the area when the situation turned chaotic. Videos shared widely on social media captured residents shouting and heckling as Shollei’s security team hurriedly escorted her away from the venue.

Witnesses said the tension began moments after the event started, forcing organizers to cut the program short due to security concerns.

The distribution exercise was part of efforts to improve milk storage and reduce post-harvest losses among local dairy farmers. However, the event was disrupted by a section of residents who appeared unhappy with the current political and economic situation in the country.

The incident comes amid growing public frustration over the rising cost of living, particularly the recent increase in fuel prices that has sparked criticism against the government.

Recently, Shollei defended the administration of President William Ruto regarding the fuel price hike. During a media interview, she stated that Parliament also played a role in the increase after approving legislation linked to fuel pricing adjustments.

Her comments generated mixed reactions online, with some Kenyans backing her remarks while others accused leaders of failing to address the economic hardships affecting ordinary citizens.

The Moiben drama also came at a time when President Ruto has been calling for unity and peaceful political engagement across the country. Speaking at a separate event, the Head of State urged Kenyans to avoid divisive politics and refrain from branding those with different opinions as enemies.

The President also condemned the killing of gospel singer Rachel Wandeto, describing the incident as unfortunate and calling for thorough investigations to ensure justice is served.

Police in Uasin Gishu have confirmed that investigations into the musician’s death are ongoing.
