Following his recent remarks on the need for a united opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election, former Wiper Youth National Secretary General Mbula Mutula, who is an ally of Kalonzo Musyoka, has commended Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.
In response to Sifuna’s claim that the only realistic way to defeat President William Ruto in 2027 is by forming a single powerful opposition alliance that unites various political parties and leaders, Mbula Mutula responded.
Mutula applauded Sifuna’s stance in an online post and stated that the ODM Secretary-General was now speaking clearly about the course of politics in the nation.
“Now, Sifuna is thinking clearly. As I’ve said, this is precisely what I’ve been saying, Mutula said.
The remarks have given more impetus to continuing discussions among opposition groups, where leaders and members have increasingly urged unity in advance of the upcoming presidential election.
Some political analysts believe that Sifuna’s words indicate that opposition leaders may start to put aside their internal disagreements in order to form a larger coalition against the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Leaders associated with Wiper and other opposition parties have argued for months that opposition divisions may make it harder to pose a real threat in 2027. Kalongo’s supporters have continuously begged leaders to prioritize coalition formation far in advance of the formal start of campaigns.
The most recent public discussion between Sifuna and Wiper supporters is likely to spark more political discussion about whether opposition leaders can come to an agreement on a shared platform and a unified presidential ticket in advance of the upcoming General Election.
