A female police officer was attacked by angry protestors in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) on Tuesday amid escalating confrontations between demonstrators and security forces. The incident occurred during the ongoing Gen Z-led protests against the 2025 Finance Bill.

According to witnesses, the officer was part of a group of police who had been attempting to disperse demonstrators near Kencom area. However, the officers were soon overwhelmed by the large, charged crowd. As the group of officers retreated, the female officer stumbled and was left behind.

It was then that a section of protestors pelted her with stones and beat her before she was rescued by fellow officers and Good Samaritans. The officer sustained injuries and was later seen being rushed to safety.

The incident has drawn sharp condemnation from human rights groups and protest organizers, who have repeatedly emphasized the importance of peaceful demonstrations.

“We condemn any form of violence, whether by police or protestors. This is not what we stand for,” said a youth coordinator speaking anonymously. “Our fight is for justice, not brutality.”

 Meanwhile, security has been heightened in various parts of the city as protests continue.

The Gen Z movement, which has remained largely peaceful, has called on its members to remain non-violent, even when provoked, warning that acts of aggression only weaken their moral high ground and

public support.
