OPINION: MPs Backing Raila 2027 Are Not Sincere ,They Are Protecting Their Seats Not the People

Share

As the 2027 elections draw near, the political noise is already deafening. A familiar chorus is being sung across rallies and press conferences: “Raila must run again!”

But Kenyans must pause and interrogate the motive behind these chants. Are these Members of Parliament genuinely concerned about Raila Odinga’s legacy or the transformation of the nation? Or are they simply clinging to his name as a lifeline for their own survival?

The truth, uncomfortable as it may be, is this: many of these MPs are not sincere. They do not care about Raila. They do not care about change. What they truly care about is securing another term in office.

Why They Want Raila to Run

First, Raila’s name offers them political cover. They know that on their own record — poor performance, neglect of constituents, and failure to deliver development — they would be easily voted out. By rallying behind Raila, they hope to ride on his long-standing influence and charisma to retain their seats.

Second, Raila’s candidacy provides them with a shield against rising challengers. Across the country, a new crop of bold leaders is emerging: reformers, youth-driven movements, and technocrats like Fred Matiang’i who carry fresh ideas and credibility. But with Raila in the race, these MPs can dismiss such challengers as spoilers or “betrayers,” effectively silencing the winds of change.

Third, loyalty to Raila has become a gatekeeping tool. These politicians use it to control party nominations, resources, and grassroots structures. They weaponize Raila’s legacy not to empower citizens, but to tighten their grip on local politics.

In short, Raila is being reduced to a political shield — protecting cowards rather than inspiring courage.

Kenyans Must Wake Up

It is time for citizens to ask the hard questions. Where were these MPs when schools went without bursaries? Where were they when the economy collapsed, jobs disappeared, and families slipped deeper into poverty? What laws or policies did they fight for to protect you?

The answer is clear: they were silent, absent, or busy enriching themselves. Today, they return with emotional appeals and propaganda, hoping to fool you into another round of recycled pain.

A Higher Calling

But let us remember — our God is not blind to betrayal. Just as He delivered Israel from Pharaoh, He will free Kenya from the chains of political slavery. No amount of propaganda, fake rivalries, or staged alliances can silence the true voice of the people when it finally rises.

Final Word to the People

Kenyans, you deserve better. Better than recycled promises, better than recycled leaders, better than MPs who hide behind Raila’s shadow to mask their failures.

This time, let us vote with our eyes open, not our hearts deceived. Reject leaders who trade loyalty for survival. Demand fresh leadership — not just in State House, but in every ward, constituency, and county.

The future will not be built by those clinging to yesterday’s struggles, but by those brave enough to chart a new path forward.
