33 Villagers in Nyamira Rushed to Hospital After Eating Meat from Dead Cow

Nyamira County was thrown into panic after 33 residents of Nyakeore Village, Nyamira South Sub-County, were hospitalized following a case of acute food poisoning. The shocking incident occurred after the group consumed meat from a dead cow.

According to a statement from the Nyamira County Health Department, the County Disease Surveillance Team swiftly responded upon receiving reports from the village. The victims were immediately evacuated to the Nyamira County Teaching and Referral Hospital, where they were treated and are now reported to be in stable condition.

Health officials say investigations are ongoing to establish the extent of the exposure. A joint team of public health officers and veterinary experts is set to visit the area tomorrow for further contact tracing and case finding.

Meanwhile, the County Government of Nyamira, through its Departments of Health and Agriculture, has urged residents of Nyakeore and neighboring villages to remain vigilant. Locals are advised to avoid consuming meat from animals that die under unclear circumstances and to promptly report any suspected cases of food poisoning.

Authorities emphasized that food safety remains a top priority, warning that consumption of uninspected meat poses serious health risks.
