The recruitment drive, set for August 2025, is part of the government’s efforts to address staffing gaps in the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and strengthen the rollout of Junior Secondary School education.
According to TSC, the vacancies have been distributed equitably across counties and sub-counties, with applicants encouraged to apply for slots in their regions of choice. A detailed breakdown of the available positions has been published on the commission’s official website, www.tsc.go.ke.
Successful candidates will be engaged as teacher interns, a program that allows trained but unemployed teachers to gain classroom experience while supporting schools in need. Interns will be posted to junior schools and will work under the supervision of experienced teachers.
In its notice, TSC emphasized that the internship programme is a short-term engagement meant to ease congestion in classrooms as the government works on long-term recruitment plans. Applicants are expected to be registered teachers with the commission and meet the minimum qualifications required for teaching in junior schools.
This latest recruitment comes at a time when schools are grappling with increased student enrollment following the double transition and ongoing curriculum reforms. Stakeholders have welcomed the move, saying it will help reduce the workload currently overwhelming many junior secondary school teachers.
Interested applicants have been urged to submit their applications exclusively through the TSC online portal before the deadline. The commission has cautioned applicants to beware of fraudsters and reminded them that the recruitment process is free of charge.
