Mike Sonko Petitions Harambee Stars’ Elimination from CHAN

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has moved to challenge the elimination of Harambee Stars from the ongoing Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) following their defeat to Madagascar in the quarter-finals.

In his petition, Sonko argues that the national team’s exit raises questions that must be addressed by football authorities, both locally and at the continental level. While he did not disclose full details of the petition, he hinted at concerns over the conduct of the match and the circumstances that led to Stars’ early exit from the tournament.

Sonko, who has previously shown a keen interest in sports and youth empowerment, maintained that Kenyan football deserves fairness and accountability. He insisted that the Harambee Stars’ performance at the continental stage should not be undermined by questionable officiating or administrative lapses.

The petition has stirred debate among fans and sports stakeholders, with some applauding Sonko’s move as a show of patriotism, while others argue that the focus should be on rebuilding the national team for future competitions rather than contesting results.

Kenya’s elimination by Madagascar was a blow to local fans who had hoped Harambee Stars would advance further in the tournament. Sonko’s intervention is now expected to put pressure on the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to review the circumstances surrounding the match.
