Two people have died and eleven others sustained injuries following a tragic road accident at Daraja Mbili in Kisii County. The incident occurred when a speeding vehicle lost control and rammed into nearby vehicles and pedestrians at the busy market area.
According to the area police commander, the accident happened during peak market hours, causing panic and chaos at the scene. Emergency responders quickly arrived, rushing the injured to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
The police have since launched investigations into the cause of the accident. Preliminary reports suggest that brake failure or overspeeding may have played a role.
The area police commander has urged residents and traders to exercise caution, especially around the Daraja Mbili market zone. “We are asking the public to avoid encroaching onto the road to prevent further tragedies,” he stated.
Authorities have been urged to consider additional safety measures in the area, including traffic control and barriers to protect pedestrians in one of Kisii’s busiest commercial hubs.
