County Govt Announces Scholarship Opportunities with Ready Jobs

Youth unemployment remains one of the most pressing challenges in Kenya, with thousands of qualified young people unable to access meaningful job opportunities. The healthcare sector, though in constant need of professionals, often remains out of reach for many due to high training costs and limited opportunities.

In response, the Mombasa County Government has launched a groundbreaking initiative to bridge this gap and empower local youth. Speaking during a press conference on Sunday, July 20, Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir announced that, for the first time, the county had developed a framework to support its students in pursuing medical studies locally.

“For the first time, the County of Mombasa will have a mechanism to enable its students to study medicine. Before, they had to study medicine outside the country,” said Governor Nassir.

Under the new program, the county will sponsor two students — one male and one female — from each of the six constituencies in Mombasa to undertake medical training at the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM). The partnership is aimed at not only boosting professional skills among youth but also addressing the county’s shortage of healthcare personnel.

The initiative is expected to improve access to higher education for underprivileged students and contribute to long-term employment opportunities in the medical field. Stakeholders have hailed the move as a visionary step toward tackling both unemployment and healthcare challenges in the region.
