Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has strongly criticized Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga, accusing him of political hypocrisy following his renewed call for dialogue with the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Speaking at a public event in Nyeri County, Gachagua dismissed Raila’s push for fresh talks as misleading and self-serving, claiming that previous recommendations from earlier discussions had yet to be implemented. He insisted that before any new dialogue could begin, the agreements reached previously must be honored.
“Raila is an expert in dialogue that only benefits himself. Last time we sat down, we agreed on key issues like the cost of living, the IEBC, and the rule of law. Why hasn’t he reported back to the people on those outcomes?” Gachagua posed.
The Deputy President went on to accuse Raila of using political negotiations as a tool to create confusion in the country and secure government positions through the back door.
He urged Kenya Kwanza supporters to remain firm and not be distracted by the opposition’s calls, assuring them that President William Ruto’s government was stable and focused on delivering its mandate.
Gachagua’s remarks come at a time when there are renewed calls for national dialogue by a section of opposition leaders who say Kenya needs an all-inclusive conversation to address critical challenges facing the nation.
This is not the first time Gachagua and Raila have clashed publicly, with the two leaders frequently exchanging barbs over governance, political reforms, and the future direction of the country.
As tensions simmer, the possibility of another round of bipartisan talks remains uncertain, with political mistrust casting a long shadow o
ver the process.
