Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i, alongside Wiper Party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, on Wednesday visited victims of the recent Gen Z protests who were injured during demonstrations held to commemorate the lives lost in last year’s June 25th protests.
The trio, accompanied by several other opposition leaders, visited injured protesters at a Nairobi hospital, expressing solidarity with the youth-led movement and condemning the continued police brutality witnessed during peaceful demonstrations.
Dr. Matiang’i called for truthfulness from government authorities regarding the deaths of young people in the 2025 protests. “We must speak the truth and demand accountability. The blood of our youth cannot be shed in vain. The government must come forward and resolve the unanswered murders that have left families in pain for over a year,” Matiang’i said.
He further called for dialogue between the state and the youth, warning that continued neglect of their grievances would only deepen the divide. “This country is crying for justice. We need open and honest conversation with our young people before it’s too late,” he added.
Kalonzo Musyoka emphasized the importance of upholding constitutional rights, particularly the right to peaceful protest. “What we are witnessing is a violation of the very freedoms enshrined in our Constitution. This must stop,” Kalonzo said.
Eugene Wamalwa proposed the formation of an independent commission to investigate the deaths and injuries related to both the 2023 and 2024 Gen Z protests, insisting that those responsible must be held accountable.
Their visit comes as public pressure mounts on the government to engage with the youth and to end police excesses during civic action.
