Police Urge Peaceful Conduct in Wednesday’s Protests

Nyanza Regional Police Commander Evelyn Nyamohanga Gisiri has called on demonstrators planning to participate in the Gen Z protests to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner. Speaking at a security meeting at Kondele Police Station, Gisiri emphasized the importance of maintaining law and order during the protests.

“We urge all individuals who plan to participate in the protests to do so peacefully and within the confines of the law,” Gisiri said. “We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens, and we expect protesters to respect the rights of others and avoid any actions that may lead to chaos or destruction of property.”

The police commander also reminded the public that the right to protest is enshrined in the constitution, but it must be exercised in a responsible manner. “We will work with protest organizers to ensure that demonstrations are conducted in a peaceful and orderly fashion,” she added.

Gisiri further urged protesters to avoid engaging in acts of violence, destruction of property, or any other behavior that may compromise public safety. “We will take necessary measures to maintain law and order, and those who engage in unlawful activities will face the full force of the law,” she warned.

The police commander also appealed to parents and guardians to advise their children against engaging in violent protests, emphasizing that such actions can have serious consequences on their future. “We urge everyone to exercise restraint and to seek peaceful ways of expressing their grievances,” she said.

In preparation for the protests, the police have put in place adequate security measures to ensure public safety. Gisiri assured the public that the police are working closely with other security agencies to maintain order and prevent any breakdown of law and order.
