Govt Takes Action Against Police Linked to Albert Ojwang’s Death

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched a full investigation into the death of a young blogger, Albert Ojwang, who died shortly after being arrested by police officers at his home in the Central area of Nairobi County.

According to Ojwang’s family, the blogger — known for his activism and vocal stance on human rights issues — was taken from his home yesterday at around 5 p.m. by men in police uniforms. Witnesses at the scene say he did not resist arrest.

Police later reported that Ojwang died while in custody at Central Police Station. They claim he fatally injured himself by banging his head against the wall inside his cell. However, family members and human rights groups strongly dispute this version of events, suggesting that he may have been tortured while in police custody.

In an official statement, IPOA said: “We have initiated an independent investigation to establish the circumstances that led to the death. We will work closely with other agencies to ensure the truth comes out and justice is served.”

Meanwhile, three police officers who were on duty at the time of Ojwang’s death have been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation. Civil rights activists have called for peaceful protests next week, demanding accountability for those responsible.

Ojwang’s death has sparked widespread outrage online. Social media users have launched the hashtag #JusticeForOjwang to demand transparency and justice. Many are calling for swift action against police brutality and greater protection for whistleblowers and activists in the country.
