Kenya is in deep mourning following the shocking assassination of Kasipul Member of Parliament, Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were. Among those deeply affected by the tragedy is West Mugirango MP Stephen Mogaka, who took to social media and public forums to express his heartfelt grief over the sudden and violent loss of his colleague and neighbor.

“Just unbelievable and shocking! R.I.P Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were. My good neighbor,” Mogaka wrote, his words echoing the disbelief and sorrow shared by many across the country. The two MPs shared a close working relationship and friendship, and Mogaka’s tribute captures the deep personal and professional loss felt in the corridors of Parliament.

Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were was gunned down in a brazen attack on Wednesday evening, at around 7:30 PM, near the City Mortuary roundabout in Nairobi.

According to eyewitnesses, two assailants on a motorbike targeted the MP. One of the gunmen reportedly alighted and shot him at close range, leaving him critically injured. In a chilling twist, his driver escaped without harm, suggesting the MP was the sole target of the attack.

Nearby traffic police witnessed the shooting and swiftly responded. The MP was rushed to Nairobi Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The brutal killing has left the nation reeling and sparked calls for a thorough investigation. Leaders across the political divide have condemned the murder and urged security agencies to act swiftly in apprehending those responsible.

MP Stephen Mogaka’s public mourning is a reflection of the tight-knit relationships formed among lawmakers, and it underscores the vulnerability even high-ranking public servants face.
