Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has ignited a political firestorm, boldly accusing President William Ruto of using state agencies to intimidate political opponents.
Speaking at the launch of Martha Karua’s newly rebranded People’s Liberation Party (PLP), Gachagua did not hold back, claiming that Ruto and his allies are plotting to silence him for refusing to toe the government’s line.
The former DP made these explosive remarks during a tour in Meru County, where he alleged that Ruto’s administration is orchestrating a scheme to oust Chief Justice Martha Koome.
According to Gachagua, the move is politically motivated, as Koome has refused to bend to executive pressure. He further claimed that due to his outspoken stance, Ruto’s inner circle is planning his arrest—an attempt, he believes, to eliminate him from the political equation.
Gachagua: “Come Arrest Me, I’ll Be Waiting With Tea!”
Known for his bravado, Gachagua dismissed the threats of arrest with an air of defiance.
“Recently, I was in Meru and warned them against doing certain things. They said they would arrest me, and I told them I’d be at my home waiting. You’re welcome, we can have tea, and then you escort me to the police station,” he quipped, drawing laughter from the audience.
He further ridiculed the state’s crackdown on dissidents, suggesting that jails no longer intimidate him or other political leaders.
“For those who are getting arrested, these jails are made for men. Nowadays, the cells are made of stone and even have toilets,” he added, taking a swipe at Ruto’s alleged use of arrests to suppress opposition voices.
2026: Gachagua’s Master Plan to Dethrone Ruto
But the real bombshell came when Gachagua declared his 2026 political comeback, vowing to dismantle Ruto’s grip on power.
“We have his antidote. The day we will start campaigning, we will dismantle him and expose him for his lies. We are reaching there, we give him this year. By 2026, no one will listen to his lies,” he stated, signaling a looming political showdown.
His remarks suggest that he is preparing to launch a full-scale campaign against Ruto, potentially dividing the Kenya Kwanza government ahead of the 2027 general elections.
United Opposition: Karua, Kalonzo, and Wamalwa Join Forces
Gachagua made these remarks while standing alongside other political heavyweights, including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa, Former UNCTAD Secretary-General Mukhisa Kituyi, and Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka.
The leaders had gathered for the official rebranding of Martha Karua’s NARC-Kenya into the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), a move signaling the birth of a new political force aimed at unseating Ruto.
With tensions rising and political camps taking shape, Gachagua’s rebellion could mark the beginning of a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 presidential elections. The big question now is—will Ruto strike back?
