The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has opened its online application portal to deploy qualified primary school teachers to Junior Secondary Schools (JSS). This initiative is part of TSC’s ongoing efforts to address the teacher shortage in JSS as the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) progresses.

Eligibility Criteria

The deployment opportunity is exclusively available to teachers currently employed under permanent and pensionable terms in public primary schools. To qualify, applicants must meet the following requirements:

Employment: Must be a TSC-employed primary school teacher.

Academic Qualifications: Achieved a minimum Mean Grade C+ at KCSE, including at least a C+ in two cluster subjects aligned with the JSS curriculum.

How to Apply

Eligible teachers are encouraged to follow these steps to complete their applications:

1. Visit the TSC Portal: Access the portal at https://tsconline.tsc.go.ke/tsc-teacher/login.

2. Login: Enter your TSC number and password to access your profile.

3. Navigate to Deployment Section: Click on the “Deployment to JSS” section.

4. Fill in Details: Complete the form with accurate information and upload the required documents, such as academic certificates and proof of qualifications.

5. Submit Application: Review your entries and submit your application before the indicated deadline.

The TSC has announced 6,000 deployment slots in this phase to help bridge the significant teacher shortage in JSS. Successful applicants will benefit from improved remuneration, enhanced career opportunities, and the chance to contribute to shaping the future of education under the CBC framework.

The deployment initiative comes as TSC works to address a 72,422-teacher deficit in JSS. Currently, only 51.5% of required teachers are employed in junior schools. To tackle this, the government has allocated Sh4.8 billion to hire 20,000 additional JSS teachers on internship terms this year.

This deployment is a step forward in ensuring that learners in JSS receive quality education. Interested teachers are urged to apply promptly to secure their chance to advance their careers while supporting Kenya’s evolving education system.
