Why Uhuru Plotted Sportpesa’s Send Off

Sportpesa betting firm rubbed shoulders with the government over tax arrears and other legal regulatory issues.
The interior cabinet secretary for Security Dr Fred Matiang’i has been tough speaking against the betting firms and companies in the country Which saw the flushing out of the companies.
Kenyan government battle with sportpesa started when the president was angered during his visit to Singapore for a summit etween September 21st and 22nd 2019.
The convoy that travelled with Uhuru Kenyatta for the Marina Bay Street Circuit asserted that he was in a jovial mood until the Silverstone-based UK team, well- known as BWT Racing Point F1 Team came branded as Sportpesa.
Uhuru Kenyatta was impressed by the company’s failure to comply to his orders on the payment of tax.
Back in Kenya that was expected to pay a 30 per cent tax on Gross Gaming Revenue, had ignored the request and yet, Sportpesa was still sponsoring multi-million dollar projects abroad using hard earned Kenyan money.
Another issue that stirred president Uhuru’s fury is the sour relationship between the Jubilee investor and fundraiser Paul Ndung’u with the leading betting firm.
During Ann Waiguru’s wedding Ndung’u and Uhuru discussed concerning Sportpesa where the Jubilee party leader insisted that they must pay the tax arrears.
