Cleophas Malala the Senator for Kakamega has been ousted by NASA senators as the Deputy Minority Leader and was replaced by Senator for Kilifi Steward Madzayo.

The NASA Senators met this morning at Parliament to discuss on Malala’s removal.

The Kakamega senator was accused of gross misconduct and being mischievous in the recently concluded Matungu parliamentary by-election.

Madzayo’s name will be tabled before Senate this afternoon to inform Senate Speaker concerning the change of guard.

Sources have discovered that the Senators affiliated with NASA got an invitation to a Parliamentary Group meeting that was to take place on Wednesday at 9.00 am by Senate Minority Leader James Orengo.

About 28 senators were expected in the meeting.

Speaking to the media outside parliament buildings just after the ouster, Orengo confirmed that all the 28 senators had received invitations from Beatrice Kwamboka, the deputy Minority whip.

The minority leader did not comment on what they discussed upon, saying that they will provide a final report later.

Orengo said that they met to solve myriad emerging issues which among them is the BBI draft bill, questions relating to leadership within the coalition and consequential bills that will be following the Constitutional Amendment Bill, 2020.

It has not been getting smooth between Senator Malala and the ODM party since last year, but his decision to support ANC candidate Peter Oscar Nabulindo in this month’s Matungu by-election seems to be the straw that broke the camel’s back.

On the 8th of March, Malala surrendered himself to the Kakamega Central Police station after rumours of an intended arrest. He recorded a statement over the chaos that arose and witnessed during the parliamentary by-election.

Despite him being loyal to ODM party, he was elected into Senate on an ANC ticket.

It seems like trouble always loves the Kakamega Senator.

In the month of June the year 2020, he was expelled from his Party ANC on account of gross misconduct being accused of sidelining it even after helping him win the Senator’s seat in the 2017 General Election.
