East African nation South Sudan came out to dismiss a report that ranked them as the most corrupt country in the region. According to The East African on Monday February 1, the country had been ranked as the second most corrupt country in the world.

Politicians led by President Salva Kiir dismissed the report and called it biased towards the new nation.

A report done by Transparency International revealed that South Sudan was the most corrupt country in East Africa and only came second to Syria in the global ranking.

It was also reported that in 2016 the country lost $36 million due to corruption scandals leading to its independence from Sudan in 2019.

Since 2013 the country was reported to be witnessing corruption in almost all its organizations.

Salva Kiir tried to promote transparency but the lack of resources has continued to hamper the process.

The report also indicated that Somalia was the third most corrupt country in the world. South Sudan was also ranked the most corrupt country in East Africa in 2019.

Kenya on the other hand came third in the least corrupt countries in East Africa. Rwanda led the pack with Tanzania taking the second spot.
