Recently impeached Nairobi Governor Mike Mbivu Sonko made his way back into the County business in a shocking twist of events. In a report published in a local newspaper on Tuesday January 5, 2021, the former governor got his wish in stopping the upcoming election.

High Court Judge Antony Mrima revealed that Sonko’s appeal to block the by-election was justified and that the matter deserved to be looked at. He claimed that Sonko and his legal team had presented important arguments.

Nairobi Assembly County lawyer Ndegwa Njiru and Sonko’s legal team reported that they were satisfied with the ruling that had been made.

Judge Antony Mrima noted that the case would now have a set date to be heard meaning the February 18 by-election needed a new date.

Mike Sonko was impeached after the Nairobi County Assembly agreed that he had mismanaged county resources.

The Senate also upheld his impeachment process by voting to remove the embattled governor early in December 2020.

The county not having a Deputy Governor, the county speaker had to take over the helms with the by-election set for February 18 2021.
