Manchester United were the visitors of AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico on Thursday night, May 6. This was the second leg of the UEFA Europa League semi finals. Man United went there with a good goal aggregate advantage and were sure of proceeding to the finals.
The game was so tight and Roma tried all they could to bounce back and edge out United from the competition but their efforts fell short. They beat their visitors Man United 3-2 but Man United proceeded on an 8-5 goal aggregate. They will now face Villarreal at the finals. The following is what was witnessed in that match.
1. Cavani’s brace.
Edinson Cavani pulled another better performance that night. He scored twice for Man United. He scored in the 39th and 68th minutes after receiving assists from Fred and Bruno Fernandes respectively.
2. Edin Dzeko’s equalizer.
Edin Dzeko scored for Roma to make it 1-1. He scored in the 57th minute from Pedro’s assist.
3. Cristante’s goal.
Bryan Cristante gave Roma a lead in the 60th minute before it was cancelled by Cavani’s goal in the 68th minute. Cristante got the assist from Lorenzo Pellegrini.
4. Alex Telles’ own goal.
In the 83th minute, Roma bounced back in front after Man United’s leftback Alex Telles sent the ball in his own net. Telles deflected a shot from Nicola Zalewski hence gave Roma the third and winning goal.
5. Roma’s ball possession.
Roma dominated the match in terms of ball possession. They were keen to see that they edged out Manchester United. By the end of the match they had a ball possession of 53%.
6. De Gea’s saves.
Despite losing 3-2, Manchester United’s goalkeeper David De Gea showed a fantastic performance between the sticks. He made a total of 10 saves.
