DP William Ruto with the governor of Kwale County Salim Mvurya on Wednesday during an official function in Malindi, Kilifi County.
The Deputy President William Ruto has joined hands with about 14 second-term governors and a certain number of first-term governors as a strategy of boosting his political power ground in his bid for the presidential position.
Apparently, the Deputy President having relinquished an endorsement which is very possible by the Head of State Uhuru Kenyatta and the Jubilee Party which is in power, has laid down a strategical plan to be able to control most of the regions through the heads of the counties.
After the divorce between Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto, the DP has prepared his weapons on 2022 General Election.
According to sources whose identity has been withheld, the Deputy President has began a recruitment drive which targets the first and second term county bosses.
According to the list that the sources managed to take a glimpse, includes the governors from Coast, Western, Mt Kenya, Rift Valley, North Eastern and Eastern regions, who reportedly have agreed to work with William Ruto.
This group doesn’t stipulate exactly the positions they will be given in William Ruto’s government if he wins the election, but has assured them that they will be in the very part of it.
Sources revealed that those ‘fully’ in the deal include 13 governors who are in their first term and 14 being in their second term who are drawn from ODM, Jubilee and some other small parties.
Despite showing the sign to join Ruto’s camp, most of these governors have requested for more time first to see the BBI process succeed.
Others too requested for more time so that they can officially and publicly announce their support for him early in the next year.
Sources also claimed that the remaining governors, were either not approached because of their firm political ground that opposes the DP, or they plainly refused to board Ruto’s political vehicle.
The plan will see the outgoing governors mobilise support for William in their backyards in return to be considered in government positions if he (Ruto) wins the presidential position.
According to sources, the deals have been kept a secret, with the governors most of the time engaging the DP in private meetings.
