Schools Not To Reopen In October As President Uhuru Set To Address The State

As president Uhuru Kenyatta set to address the state on Tuesday, questions are arising whether President Uhuru Kenyatta will order all schools to reopen. As the CS of education prof Magoha indicated after the meeting with stakeholders, schools will reopen on October 19th 2020 where president Uhuru will give out the last update upon reopening schools on that date.

However, as per the opinion, schools should not set to reopen as early as October yet proper measures against covid-19 in schools haven’t laid out properly. Reports affirms that most of the public schools doesn’t have adequate facilities to cater for students I’m schools in a bid to combat Covid-19. The Ministry of education had made a pronouncement that each class Should have a carrying capacity of 15-20 students.

This move was seen to be impossible since facilities are inadequate in most public schools. This will greatly affect the measure of social distance thus endangering Learners. However, some Politicians came up opposing the action of possible reopening of schools in October over the claim that it will endanger the lives of children since the government haven’t come up with effective strategies.

CS Prof Magoha had ordered teachers to attend in school earlier on the preparedness as schools set to reopen on October. Claims ascertains that the government should loosen covid-19 measures in churches, bars,etc before experimenting to students on reopening schools. The Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen and other leaders opposed the government’s action of reopening schools in October stating that lives of children will be in danger.
