Panic To Land Grabbers In Nairobi As Government Issues Stern Warning

Anne Kananu the Deputy Governor for Nairobi county has promised to recover all the grabbed public land in the county. She said that the lands would be put into proper use after the recovery, which she assured would begin very soon.

Land-grabbing has been a normal problem all over the country mostly in the developed cities Nairobi being in front. A lot of public utility land is in the hands of private investors.

The untouchable manias in Land-grabbing has denied many city dwellers of crucial services. Many of the estates in the city are without public schools, police stations, play fields and government health centres, although the land originally was set aside for such use but ended up being grabbed.

And in their places instead, there are bars and restaurants, rental houses or shops put up by private individuals. A few self-centered individuals therefore end up benefitting at the expense of a whole community.

It is very heart breaking and there is a call for bold action to be taken to uproot the odious tradition of land-grabbing.

Unfortunately, even in the past, we have always been seeing government officials just like Ms Anne Kananu, talking tough and even beginning to demolish illegal structures built illegally on public land only the exercise to be halted later on at times, following public outcry.

It ends up being concluded that the people occupying such land are completely innocent. These are victims of complex fraud involving cartels working in collaboration with unscrupulous officials in the Lands ministry.

That clearly explains why, for example, some of the individuals who were recently ejected from Kenya Railways land had authentic title deeds.

And such a people honestly deserve justice. Those who sold the land to them must be forced to compensate them. Irregardless, the fact that public land must be reclaimed still stands and the government should perform it once and for all.

That’s the only way that will pave the way for Kenyans to be given the services they have long been denied by the so called land land grabbers.
