Detectives from the DCI have apprehended a man 38 years of age from Githurai Kimbo area over an alleged killing of his girlfriend.
The man by the name Evans Karani has been accused of murdering the 25-year-old girlfriend by the name Catherine Nyokabi in an area known as Witeithie within Juja constituency in Kiambu County on Wednesday, 14th of April.
Richard Mwaura, the Juja Sub-County Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer, told the media that Karani attempted to clear off Catherine’s body but the mother nature did not supports his move.
According to the DCI, Karani while secretly transporting Catherine’s body in his car, his vehicle got stuck in the mud on Bob Harris road in Juja, something that forced him to flee, leaving the car and the body behind.
The Police who arrived at the scene after receiving the alarming reports by the locals, verified that the car is owned by the National Transport and Safety Authority’s Registrar of Motor Vehicles. Karani’s hunt immediately began being launched by a multi-agency team which comprised of DCI officers, the police, and the officers from Agency’s Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB).
And on the morning of Friday, 16th of April, the detectives, through phone signal, tracked down Evans Karani and found him hiding in his rented house in Githurai Kimbo area.
According to the authorities, Catherine’s body had been burnt by the use of a corrosive chemical.
Nyokabi appeared to have been tortured before being murdered, said the detective.
Karani is in custody at the Juja Police Station.
In addition, the Authorities also confirmed that the suspect confessed to have killed Nyokabi, who was a hotel worker in Kahawa Wendani, after a bitter conflict they had in the past two weeks.
Karani, who is a husband to someone, reportedly told the authorities that Nyokabi was his secret lover.
Mr Gitonga Njogu, the father of the deceased, told the media that some reports suggested that his daughter, who was the first born in a family of four children, died in a road accident.
He also confirmed that her late daughter Catherine had, in the past, introduced Evans Karani to him as her suitor.
The suspect will be arraigned on Monday 19th of April, where the detectives would seek for more time to complete the investigation.
