The acting governor for Nairobi County Benson Mutura has today reshuffled his cabinet for the first time since taking over the county leadership in December 2020 following the impeachment of Mike Sonko. Speaking in a presser held on Wednesday, the acting governor has unveiled the reinstating of Janet Ouko as the County Executive Committee (CEC) member in charge of Education.

Before her resignation in January 2019, Ms. Ouko previously held the Education, Youth Affairs and Sports docket during former Governor Mike Sonko’s tenure. Her reappointment into the county cabinet has led to the replacement of Ms. Lucia Mulwa, who has held the office since her (Ms. Ouko’s) resignation.

Ms. Mulwa has been moved to the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock which fell vacant last year upon the sacking of Winfred Kathangu, the former holder of the office.

“In line with the powers bestowed upon me by the Constitution and the County Governments Act, 2012, and in order to support the efficient exercise of county functions, I have today made the following appointments and realignments for effective service delivery,” said Mr. Mutura.

The cabinet realignment has also seen former parliamentary aspirant and lawyer Brian Weke being appointed into the position of the Legal Advisor to the Office of the Governor whereas Jairus Musumba was named the acting County Secretary. Paul Mutungi has been appointed the Chief of Staff.

Mutura has also unveiled that the reshuffle does not end there since he will be communicating more changes in the due course.
