The former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has been ordered by the Anti-corruption court to avail himself to court tomorrow for the hearing of corruption case against him.

The Trial magistrate Douglas Ogoti rejected the application made by the defense lawyers seeking to adjourn, stating that an independent medical report is showing that the former governor is fit and in good state of mind to stand trial.

Four independent medical doctors from the Kenyatta National Hospital conducted the test.

The Anti corruption court nullified a medical report that was obtained from the private doctors and presented by the defense lawyers, claiming that the same reports were obtained two weeks after the court had made an order that Sonko be examined at the Kenyatta National Hospital.

The court has clearly stated that if Sonko fails to appearin court tomorrow there would be consequences to follow.

The last time Sonko appeared before justice Ogoti to attend a trial was on 26th of January and has since been away on medical grounds.

According to the psychiatric report Ogoti said it shows that the former governor has no mental illnesses.

The justice has earlier rejected an application made by Sonko to recuse himself from handling the case.

The magistrate ruled out that the governor defense team had on their side failed to provide enough evidence to prove his alleged bias and attempts to deny justice.

The magistrate ruled that Mr Mbuvi has failed to prove any claims of bias to warrant the court to disqualify me.

The former governor is facing two corruption charges.

The second corruption case against Sonko is also underway, in which he is accused together with four others of embezzling Ksh 14.1 million.

Earlier on his defense lawyers produced a psychiatrist’s report showing that he5 is mentally unfit to stand trial.
