Controversial lawyer Miguna Miguna is back in the Kenyan political pot following his direct nomination by the Thirdway Alliance Kenya (TAK) party to vie in the forthcoming Nairobi gubernatorial by-elections slated for February 18, 2021. Miguna’s nomination was announced by the party’s national chairman, Muiruru Waweru who praised him as a true champion of justice.

“It is, therefore, a great honor for Thirdway Alliance Kenya to unveil Dr. Miguna Miguna as its candidate for this by-election. Thirdway Alliance and Dr. Miguna share a common belief that Nairobi, and indeed the Republic of Kenya, can no longer be entrusted in the hands of a corrosive cartel of plunderers and a criminal enterprise.” Mr. Waweru said.

While submitting Miguna’s letter of clearance to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Monday morning, the party also submitted his power of attorney documents that implicated that the party’s National Election Committee can work on his behalf in the entire elections process.

Miguna Miguna’s nomination has been confirmed by Frederick Okang’o, the party’s Secretary-General who further revealed that the lawyer has been a member of TAK since 2019. According to the Secretary-General, the decision to nominate Dr. Miguna Miguna to run in the forthcoming Nairobi gubernatorial by-elections was arrived at after extensive discussions amongst the party’s leadership and members.

“We know that the candidate who will win this by-election has only 15 months in office and Nairobi will need a very agile, straightforward, and a person of integrity. A candidate who will be able to fix the issues of Nairobi. And Miguna just fits this description,” said Okang’o.

On his side, Miguna Miguna has expressed his satisfaction with the party’s decision to grant him a direct nomination into the Nairobi gubernatorial race. Speaking from Canada the firebrand lawyer has confirmed his nomination saying, “Yes, it is true. The march for Nairobi’s liberation is on. I strongly urge all compatriots to mobilize. Viva!”

Miguna’s endorsement comes barely two weeks after the impeachment of Governor Mike Sonko on the grounds of abuse of office.
