Manchester United Closes In After Liverpool Lost to Southampton

Liverpool were surprise losers at Southampton as they dropped points. The Merseyside club failed to open up a gap between them and bitter rivals Manchester United at the top of the English Premier League.
A solitary goal from in form striker Dany Ings gave the Saints a much deserved win at their home turf. Liverpool on the other side were disappointing, failing to capitalize on their chances.
“We were awful, ” Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp commented after the game ended. The German noted that their performance was not good enough to earn them a win.
This loss signalled a renewal in strength from Manchester United who are level on points with Liverpool. Manchester City also smelled blood as they comfortably beat Chelsea 3-1 on Saturday.
Manchester United, who started the year with a 1-0 win against Aston Villa, can now go on top when they play their next game. Noisy neighbours Manchester City are also now in the race for their 4th premier league title.
Southampton on the other hand now sit comfortably in the top half of the table after a disappointing start to the league. Dany Ings was back on the score sheet proving that he still had his touch.
Liverpool are now facing an uphill task in maintaining their lead with the two Manchester clubs breathing down their necks.
