Man Hangs Himself in School compound over Domestic Rows

Tension is high in Eshiakhulo Secondary School, Mumias East after the residents woke up to a rude shock after a man committed suicide in the school compound.

David Kasambai,35, the deceased body was found in the school field with a rope in his neck by one of the teachers dangling in one of the trees in the institution compound.

Confirming the incident, Marry Njaya, an assistant chief of Khaimba Sub-Location said that she was informed of the shocking incident by one of the school teachers that a body of the deceased was found tied with a rope on top of the tree.

“I was alerted of the shocking event by one of the teacher at around 6.00 AM, that a man had committed suicide in their school compound, when I reached there indeed we found the man dead with a rope in his neck,” said Njaya.

Furthermore, the area administrator said that, the 35-year-old deceased seems to have committed suicide over domestic wrangles linking the death to the current harsh economic times brought by the ravages of Covid-19 pandemic.

She urged the resident to solve their issues in a right away saying that hanging themselves is not a solution to their prevailing issues within the family.

“Let us share our problems with the people we trust so that we can get advice on issues that we experience in day to day life, keeping quiet would not solve them,” said Njaya.

Furthermore, she called on religious leaders and counselors to assist depressed people and give them hope so that they do not take their lives.

She added that, the deceased did not indicate the reasons for taking his life as there was no suicide note.

The assistant chief said that the police have already launched an investigation to establish the motive behind the death of the deceased.

“Police have launched an investigation and the body of the deceased has been taken to St Mary’s Mumias Hospital for postmortem to identify the cause of the death, I urge the residents to remain calm as police do their job,” said the area administrator.
