Timothy Musembi, High school teacher from Kirinyaga county who made headlines after attacking and injuring his colleague has been charged with attempted murder.
The 34 year old teacher was taken to court in Wang’uru, Kirinyaga county under heavy security where he was required to answer to the criminal act.
Timothy was was accused of attempted murder on March 2, at Karoti Girls High School in Mwea East Sub-County.
He had badly slashed his colleague, Alphonce Orina, 26, on head and hands with a machete.
According to witnesses from the school, Mr Orina was in the staff room when his colleague stormed in and accused him of having a love affair with his girlfriend.
The lady is a fourth year university student who is on a teaching practice in the school.
Mr. Musembi suddenly slashed Mr Orina twice on the head, forcing him to put up a spirited fight. Mr Orina, who was now unconscious got rescued by other teachers who were responding to the commotion and took him to hospital, badly injured and bleeding.
Timothy surrendered himself to Wang’uru Police Station where he was locked up for questioning before being taken to court today.
In the Court, accused denied the charges and applied to be released on bond when he appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Monica Kivuti.
Mr. Musembi argued that the charge he was facing is bailable and requested to be freed so that he could be attending court while coming from home.
The magistrate ordered that he be released on a Sh100,000 bond until March 17 when the case will be mentioned.
However, the accused was remanded in prison as he could not immediately raise the bond.
