A police officer in Siaya County is nursing injuries at Sagam Hospital following an attack by his girlfriend. This is according to Ugunja Sub-County Police Commander Lazarus Tarus who confirmed the incident saying that a police officer named Constable Dennis Mugo was receiving treatment after seriously being injured by his Form Three girlfriend following a disagreement on Christmas day.

According to a police report on the incident, Constable Mugo was involved in a fight with his girlfriend before the worst just happened to him. The report further indicates that arguments between the police officer and his girlfriend were the basis of the fight which saw the suspect attack her boyfriend with pieces of broken glass leaving him in a critical condition.

“She cut the victim on his head and upper arm. The victim screamed for help while bleeding profusely from the injury,” stated the report.

It all started when the suspect informed Mugo that she intended to attend a Christmas party hosted by her male friend but the officer would not allow her to go to the event. To rub salt into the wound, the police officer snatched her phone and made a threatening call to the male friend who had invited her telling him to stay away from his wife.

Mugo’s action angered his girlfriend who retaliated by first breaking the household before landing broken pieces of glass which she used to attack him. It is reported that a colleague of Mugo named Corporal Solomon Kipchumba was the first to arrive at the crime scene in a bid to rescue him following his cries for help. In the event of rescuing his colleague, Corporal Kipchumba was also attacked and injured by the suspect.

“He took away her phone and called the man who had invited the lady to the party and asked him to live his wife alone,” hinted an officer who spoke on condition of anonymity. “Police officers from Ugunja Police Station rushed to the scene led by the OCS and the injured policemen were taken to Inuka Hospital for treatment.” The officer added.

While confirming the incident on Saturday the 26th, Commander Tarus revealed that the suspect had immediately been arrested and detained at Ugunja Police Station as a probe into the matter was launched. Tarus also unveiled that Corporal Kipchumba had been treated and discharged whereas Constable Mugo was referred to Sagam Hospital for intensive care following his critical condition.
