Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi has come out to refute claims that Kenyans have been left out in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) discussion.

Speaking on News Night on Citizen TV on Tuesday February 23, Mudavadi mentioned that Kenyans had the final say before the document was finally adopted.

He said that it was still a long process and everyone would participate in making sure it is transparent.

“The challenge will be the referendum itself. What is important as we get to the referendum stage for me is to just to appeal to the Kenyans that let that process not be acrimonious, let it be a process where the truth is told, where people through civic education get to understand what the facts really are so that we can then have a decision that is based on facts,” he said.

He added, “Now we still are heading to Parliament and then from Parliament, the referendum process will come into play”.

So far 38 county assemblies have approved the document meaning it beat the 24 number threshold to pass the county stage.

The document will now head to parliament and after that there will be a referendum where people will voice their concerns on the BBI document.
