Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho declared his ambition to go up against ODM Party leader Raila Odinga. Speaking in Mombasa on Thursday January 28, Joho confirmed that he would be putting his name on the flagbearer job.

Joho, who had earlier started working out his future in politics after two terms as Mombasa Governor, revealed that he was more than ready for the top job.

The Governor insisted that it was time to try out other tribes too and that the presidency was not tied to a few individuals.

He also noted that it was about time he made his ambition known. Joho had earlier declared that he would seek the top seat in 2022 but was quiet about it for a long time.

This move comes as ODM looks to reinvent itself through new leadership. Governor Joho is, however, not the only candidate seeking out the position.

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya is also in the race for the spot. The two who are co-deputy party leaders of ODM will now face each other in the polls.

ODM leader Raila Odinga is also expected to put his name in the race as most of the party’s followers still support him.

Raila will now have to face his Deputy party leaders in what is expected to be a tough race.
