The political landscape continues to shift after Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata’s surprising announcement to leave the United Democratic Alliance ahead of the 2027 elections. National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah is now stepping forward to clarify his stance.<\/p>\n

In a public statement, Ichung’wah strongly refuted claims that he had been pressuring the governor behind closed doors. He emphasized that his comments were made openly and transparently, with no hidden threats or coercion involved.<\/p>\n

Ichung’wah expressed his concerns about what he perceives as inconsistent behavior from Kang’ata in the political arena, referencing a prior exchange at Kenneth Matiba Hospital as an example.<\/p>\n

Directly addressing Kang’ata, Ichung’wah stated, “My intention was never to pressure you, but rather to highlight the hypocrisy I’ve observed in your actions.”<\/p>\n

He also brought up their previous political encounters, including a notable clash during impeachment discussions in Lavington, suggesting that their complicated relationship runs deeper than the public might think.<\/p>\n

Regarding the allegations of pressure, Ichung’wah dismissed them, asserting that any tension existed during private discussions long before any public remarks were made, not the reverse.<\/p>\n

He also pointed fingers at unnamed politicians who have used his name in conversations with opposition figures like former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, alleging that they did so for their own selfish reasons.<\/p>\n

*”Do you really want me to elaborate on what occurred in Lavington, my brother? Especially regarding the resources of Murang’a?”* he asked pointedly, prompting speculation.<\/p>\n

While Ichung’wah didn’t reveal all the details, he made it clear that the information he possesses could have serious repercussions for those involved. His message to Kang’ata was direct: stand up for yourself, stop hiding behind others\u2019 names, and don’t confuse restraint with weakness\u2014because next time, he won’t hold back.<\/a><\/p>\n

Kang’ata’s departure from the UDA is seen as a significant setback for President William Ruto’s influence over the Mt Kenya voter base. With public exchanges like these becoming more common, it\u2019s clear that the divisions within the ruling coalition are widening as the 2027 elections approach.<\/p>\n
