Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has come out guns blazing against Siaya Governor James Orengo, warning him that he is headed for a humiliating political end if he continues cozying up to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his allies.<\/p>\n
In a strongly worded post on social media, Kaluma made it clear that ODM’s grassroots supporters have zero tolerance for anyone seen as drifting toward Gachagua’s camp. He insisted that the party remains firmly committed to the broad-based government arrangement with President William Ruto, now under the stewardship of Dr. Oburu Oginga, and that this will remain the party’s direction going into 2027.<\/p>\n
The outburst comes just a day after Orengo was publicly turned away from a funeral in Nyanza \u2014 an embarrassing episode that Kaluma and other ODM loyalists are pointing to as proof that the so-called Linda Mwananchi faction, which includes Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, is losing the ground war within the party.<\/p>\n
Kaluma’s concern is straightforward: he believes this group is slowly but deliberately steering ODM supporters toward the opposition, and he sees that as a serious betrayal ahead of the 2027 elections. He has previously suggested that if Orengo, Sifuna, and Babu Owino refuse to fall in line, the party should formally cut them loose at the National Delegates Conference and let them join Gachagua openly.<\/p>\n
His latest remarks double down on that position, painting the Ruto-Oburu Oginga alliance as the legitimate face of ODM \u2014 one that he says is rooted in the enduring political legacy of the Odinga family.<\/p>\n
The battle for Nyanza is clearly heating up. On one side, supporters of the broad-based deal argue it brings real development and political weight to the region. On the other, the Linda Mwananchi wing insists the arrangement has cost the party its soul as a reform and opposition movement.<\/p>\n
With 2027 fast approaching, Kaluma’s increasingly blunt warnings signal that ODM’s internal loyalty tests are no longer being conducted behind closed doors \u2014 and the consequences for those seen as switching sides are now being spelled out in public.<\/p>\n
