Former Meru governor Peter Munya has signalled that the Ameru community is weighing its options ahead of the 2027 General Election, with Fred Matiang\u2019i emerging as a key figure in early talks.<\/p>\n

Speaking in Kiirua during the launch of a Party of National Unity office in Buuri, Munya told residents that conversations with Matiang\u2019i have already begun.<\/p>\n

He said the community is keen on organising itself early to avoid entering future political deals unprepared. According to him, identifying a preferred candidate in good time allows room for structured engagement and clear expectations.<\/p>\n

Munya stressed that any support offered in 2027 must be guided by firm agreements. He noted that the focus is shifting from blind loyalty to negotiated partnerships that bring tangible benefits such as jobs and development projects.<\/p>\n

He urged residents to embrace formal coalition arrangements, arguing that the law provides room for such agreements to protect community interests.<\/p>\n

He cautioned against what he describes as a past culture of offering votes without clear returns. In his view, the Ameru community must adopt a more deliberate approach by securing written commitments before backing any presidential candidate. Munya said this would ensure accountability and prevent a repeat of previous disappointments.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the PNU leader criticised leaders from the region who are aligned with the current administration. He accused them of failing to push for meaningful gains despite supporting the government, adding that such loyalty has not translated into visible progress for the community.<\/p>\n

Munya also dismissed claims that he has stepped back from local politics. He affirmed that he remains focused on contesting the Meru governorship in 2027 and challenged his rivals to present their own agendas instead of speculating about his plans.<\/p>\n
