Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has strongly condemned an incident that unfolded at PCEA Church in Kariobangi North on Sunday, where police allegedly dispersed a gathering using tear gas, leaving worshippers\u2014including women and children\u2014caught in the chaos.<\/p>\n

In a statement shared earlier, Gachagua accused security officers and unidentified individuals of attacking members of the public and supporters of the Democratic Change Party (DCP). According to him, two people sustained gunshot wounds during the confrontation and are currently receiving medical attention.<\/p>\n

Gachagua criticized the actions taken by security agencies, terming them an unacceptable violation of a place of worship. He said the use of tear gas within the church compound amounted to desecrating a sacred space and endangering clergy and worshippers.<\/p>\n

While making reference to President William Ruto\u2019s administration, Gachagua claimed that the confrontation was politically motivated, suggesting that residents were being targeted for their choice of political affiliation. He, however, called for calm among supporters, urging the public to remain steadfast and peaceful even as investigations continue.<\/p>\n

Local leaders and community members have also voiced concerns over the safety of worship places and the conduct of security personnel during political activities. Civil rights groups are expected to issue statements as more details emerge.<\/p>\n
