President William Ruto has officially designated August 27 as Katiba Day, an annual event dedicated to commemorating the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution, which marked a historic milestone in Kenya\u2019s democratic journey.<\/p>\n

In a proclamation issued from the Executive Office of the President on Monday, Ruto emphasized that the day will remind Kenyans of their shared responsibility to uphold and safeguard the Constitution. He noted that the 2010 charter ushered in a new era of citizen-driven governance, devolution, equitable development, and enhanced protection of fundamental freedoms.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe promulgation of the 2010 Constitution was a defining moment in our nation\u2019s history. It signified a renewed commitment to justice, fairness, and prosperity for all Kenyans,\u201d the proclamation read in part.<\/p>\n

Katiba Day will remain a working day, but Ruto directed that it be observed across all levels of government, including schools and Kenya\u2019s diplomatic missions abroad. Institutions will be expected to organize activities that promote constitutional literacy and civic engagement, ensuring that citizens continue to reflect on the values and principles enshrined in the supreme law.<\/p>\n

The announcement coincides with preparations to mark the 15th anniversary of the Constitution\u2019s promulgation on Wednesday.
