Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang\u2019i has dismissed claims that the opposition is responsible for the recent wave of protests across Kenya, urging leaders to focus on addressing the root causes of public discontent instead of pointing fingers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking to a gathering of Kenyans in the diaspora during an event in Baltimore, Maryland, Matiang\u2019i said it was misleading and unfair to blame the opposition for the unrest that has swept through various parts of the country in recent weeks.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe protests are a reflection of the people\u2019s frustrations with the current socio-economic conditions. Blaming the opposition is simply a way of avoiding accountability,\u201d Matiang\u2019i told the audience.<\/p>\n

He further stated that instead of scapegoating, the government should listen to the voices of the citizens and engage in meaningful dialogue to find lasting solutions.<\/p>\n

Matiang\u2019i, who has kept a low political profile since leaving office, emphasized the importance of upholding democratic values, including the right to peaceful protest. He noted that civil unrest often stems from unfulfilled promises, poor service delivery, and governance challenges\u2014not from political mobilization alone.<\/p>\n

His remarks come at a time when the government has intensified crackdowns on protests, blaming opposition leaders for inciting public disorder.<\/p>\n

Diaspora Kenyans in attendance applauded Matiang\u2019i\u2019s message, saying it echoed the sentiments of many back home.<\/p>\n
