Matiang\u2019i emphasized that even during his time in government, he always abided by the rule of law. \u201cSince I was born, I have never been above the law\u2014even when I was a minister, I was not above the law,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
As whispers grow around a potential presidential bid or other political ambitions, Matiang\u2019i also touched on how he would fund a campaign. His response was a sharp contrast to the money-fueled narratives often associated with Kenyan politics.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t think that is for public discussion,\u201d he said. \u201cThe truth of the matter is that when you go into a campaign, you seek donors and people to support you. I will seek support from well-wishers and those who believe in my leadership. I have no money to bribe people and go pay voters.\u201d<\/p>\n
Asked about his net worth, Matiang\u2019i brushed off the question, asserting that his financial affairs were not for public scrutiny. \u201cNo, I don’t know how much I am worth,\u201d he said, adding, \u201cEven if I did, that is not for public consumption because I am not a public official and you are not a commission to which I am supposed to declare my wealth.\u201d<\/p>\n
