Chief Whip in the National Assembly and South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro has issued a stern warning to leaders allegedly planning Gen Z-led demonstrations on June 25.<\/p>\n

Speaking during an economic empowerment event in Borabu, Nyamira County, Osoro claimed that a section of opposition leaders is secretly organizing meetings to mobilize young people into staging fresh protests, under the guise of commemorating last year\u2019s demonstrations that turned deadly.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome people are busy holding secret meetings, trying to incite young people to return to the streets in the name of marking one year since the protests,\u201d said Osoro. \u201cWe will not allow any attempts to fuel violence and chaos in our country.\u201d<\/p>\n

The MP emphasized that while the Constitution guarantees the right to peaceful protest, any effort that threatens public order or incites unrest will be dealt with firmly. He urged the youth not to be used as tools by politicians with ulterior motives.<\/p>\n

June 25 marks one year since nationwide protests led by Gen Z and civil society groups broke out over the cost of living and governance concerns. The protests turned tragic when several young lives were lost, drawing both national and international attention.<\/p>\n

Osoro maintained that the government is committed to engaging youth constructively through empowerment programs, education, and employment opportunities \u2014 not through violent street action.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are here to empower our youth with opportunities, not to bury them because of someone\u2019s political agenda,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The lawmaker called on security agencies to remain alert and take preemptive action against any gatherings intended to incite violence.<\/p>\n

The warning comes amid rising online mobilization around the anniversary date, with some activists vowing to return to the streets in memory of those who died during last year\u2019s unrest.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
