The council of governor yesterday gave out proposals on the reopening of the places of worship that were closed down due to the Covid-19 Pandemic in the country.

Only 30 people shall be allowed in places of worship with no limit as to the number of services. Churches shall provide appropriate facilities such as hand washing facilities, clean running water, soap, paper towels, hand sanitizer and disinfectants.

The Council of Governors recommended the development of legislation to govern these rules and sanctions especially in an event where a worshipper or a church violates such protocols.”

In the new recommendation more than one service will be held on the same day, however there must be at least one hour between each service, to facilitate proper sanitization of the venue.

Geoffrey Mwiti said, “A church like Winners Chapel Nrb has 20,000 capacity, what percentage is 30? other small churches can hold 20 people, so talking of 30 you mean they can run full capacity!”

However, Kenyans on social media questioned the practicability of the new proposal as some churches have more than 3,000 people and it will not be easy to hold services to accommodate all people.
“What is the figure based on? Some churches have a 20 seated capacity building, while others have a 3000 seated capacity. This matter needs more reflection and creative imagination than is proffered here, ” ACK Reverend remarked.
