Almost all schools across the country have complied with the laid down Covid-19 protocols and therefore are ready to open come January 2021. These are the sentiments of the education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha who spoke on Monday in Kisumu County while on his tour to assess the state of preparedness of schools in the region.

“I am happy to say that the schools I have seen today are all rural and they are ready and willing to go. My plea to the public is that we must start thinking positively now,” said prof. Magoha.

While addressing the issue of social distancing, Magoha wasn’t hesitant to admit that the directive to ensure a one-meter space in class sitting arrangement might pose a serious challenge to some schools. The CS further urged parents to equip their children with at least two re-usable face masks in a bid to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.

“You as a parent you need to buy face masks for your child,” said the education CS. In addition, Magoha assured the government’s helping hand towards the allocation of the crucial items to schools with needy students.

The resumption of studies in January will see pupils in Pre-Primary 1 and 2, Grade 1, 2, 3, Class Five, Six and Seven as well as students in Form One, Two, and Three embark on their studies after a long break dating back to March 2020. As for the learners in Grade 4, Class 8, and Form 4 it will be a continuation since they had resumed their studies earlier on in October this year.

The January reopening will mark the beginning of term two which will end on March 19 giving the candidate classes space to sit the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination (KCSE) and the Kenya Certificate of Primary Examination (KCPE).
