The new division of revenue to counties bill that was spearheaded by Kang’ata and majority of the Mount Kenya Leaders led to rivalry between the Uhuru Kenyatta’s allied Members of parliament and Raila’s die-hards.
Mount Kenya Leaders warned their counterparts that if they failed to pass the division of revenue formulae, that could lead to the demise of the Building Bridges Intiative.

On the other hand the ODM leaders urged the Mt Kenya politicians not to associate the revenue of division bill with the handshake and building bridges as they perceived that the BBI was more important than the division of revenue.

Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata was the first one to go on record in saying that one man, one shilling, one vote or no BBI.
The stand by the Jubilee leaders who are inclined to president caused tension and panic amongst leaders from the opposition who had started reaping from the fruits of the historical handshake between the president Uhuru Kenyatta and the former prime minister Raila Odinga.

Kang’ata happens to have softened his tough stand as observed in the recent conversations he has been making.
According to a report by Taifa leo Newspaper, the president Uhuru Kenyatta summoned Irungu Kang’ata and warned him against threatening the former prime minister and the Building bridges initiative.
