Mathare United and Zoo Kericho are set to play their first league games this weekend after being left out at the start of the season. According to reports by Goal, the two clubs were let back into action after a court battle.

The two clubs, termed rebels by FKF, will now have their first matches this weekend. Mathare United will face fierce opponents Sofapaka in their first game.

Zoo Kericho on the other hand will face dockers Bandari. The two teams will have to catch up with the rest of the bunch as they have played more games.

The rest of the teams have played 6 games meaning Mathare United and Zoo Kericho will have tight fixtures. Mathare United will have to face 5 teams in the next two weeks.

Their second game will be against Zoo Kericho on January 18. Mathare will then face Bandari on January 22. The slum boys will then travel to Nakuru to face Ulinzi Starts on January 27. Their final game of the month will come of January 31 against Tusker FC.

FKF president Nick Mwendwa welcomed the decision by the court to reinstate the two teams but said they would not be included in the grants that had been signed earlier.

We said we will do it, to have the teams back in the league because we don’t have issues with them [the teams] and we also respect the courts,” Mwendwa said on Saturday.

“However, it is not going to be possible to give them grants from the sponsors, they have refused to recognise the sponsors so how can we give them grants?”

“If you don’t sign TV rights then you cannot receive any money, including the one from the main sponsors BetKing.”
