The deputy president today congregated with close political allies at Waluhke’s home in Sirisia to pray for him ahead of his appeal case after being found guilty of defrauding the National Cereals and Produce Board(NCPB) of 300 million in a maize scandal .In attendance were the Jubilee MPs allied to Deputy President William Ruto and a number of MCAs.

The Sirisia Member of Parliament is still at the Industrial Area Prison whereas Grace Wakhungu is held at the Langata Women’s Prison.

In her ruling Anti-Corruption Magistrate Elizabeth Juma ruled Waluhke and his co-accused businesswoman Grace Wakhungu guilty of fraud, having received Sh300 million from the National Cereals and Produce Board, NCPB in 2004. The MP was sentenced for 67 years and orderd to pay a fine of 727 million.

The Magistrate in her ruling said there was sufficient evidence to show that they forged an invoice to demand payment of the money charged as storage fees for the maize they said they imported from Ethiopia.

Wahluke through his lawyers applied for an appeal, that the verdict was harsh. The appeal hearing will be held on Tuesday, July 21st. A full prayer secession was held with the praise and worship being led by Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama and the sermon being given by Bumula MP Mwambu Mabonga.

The leaders sought God’s intervention in the case and leniency from Judge hoping the judgment made will be in favor of Waluhke. Bonny Khalwale was also part of the team championing the prayers held at the MP’s home.

The leaders though made it clear that they were not holding a political meeting but rather lifting a friend to God’s hands. Hoping all will turn out well after the hearing, and see him a free man.
